The Fear of Finding a Niche

I’m sure there are others out there who can relate in the struggle of finding a niche. When looking at your industry at a whole, it’s easy to succumb to the feeling like you don’t belong in any particular area. Industrial Organizational Psychology is no different for me.

As I look out onto the many and ever-changing paths of this industry, I’m reminded by what I’ve done in the past. I can recall always being the one out of everyone in my immediate family to embark on uncharted paths. Ultimately, trying over and over again despite being met with failures to find where I can see myself walking.

So this is what I would suggest to anyone struggling with making a decision:

Pick one and learn more about it. Don’t be afraid to try, even if you think failure is certain.

I speak with experience on this as it took time for me to find what I was interested in. Before deciding to walk the path of an Industrial Organizational Psychologist, I jumped industries regularly. I worked in Pharmacy for a number of years, worked in Banking and Finance, did some Sales, Marketing and learned about Business. Now I’m finding myself marrying all of disciplines together.

Keep trying. You’ve got time.
